POLICE SHOOTING IN CHARLOTTE, NC; FALSE POST SPURS RIOTS
September 21, 2016 – Yesterday police in Charlotte, North Carolina interacted with a motorist sitting in his car as officers searched for a person with warrants. The incident occurred at an apartment complex when the suspect exited his vehicle with a weapon in his hand. The driver, a black man, was shot by a black police officer. Family members immediately took to the internet, posting statements that he was holding a book, not a gun. However, the family statements have been found untrue, as police have recovered the weapon that the driver was holding.
During the night riots began breaking out. Looting of businesses and vehicles has taken place, which has been seen to be the case in past incidents. In Fergusson, Missouri, riots broke out after a police officer shot a black male. In that incident, false statements spurred riots and looting of the area. The Obama administration took part in fanning the flames of racial discord and sent the Department of Justice to investigate. It was found that the police officer made no errors in the shooting.
