Democrats and Republicans Spend Hardily In New Bill (earmarks on the table)
Life, liberty and the persuit of happiness.
Dec. 18, 2010 – Spending money like drunken Leprechauns, the house approved a short term measure to keep the
government running. Instead of cutting back or temporarily laying off like many in the private sector experience, the
government has chosen to keep spending.
Republicans who had chunked tons of ‘earmarks’ into the spending bill finally backed away because of public pressure.
Senator John McCain commented on the number of calls and emails he had received regarding the lavish spending of tax-
payer monies and thanked those who stood up and said “we’ve had enough.” While pretending to be a friend to the working
class, Republicans had earmarked money for pet projects in their home states.
Upcoming votes in the Senate are the continued forced ban on the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that prohibits homosexuals
from serving openly in the military. Also the Senate is considering changing immigration policy so that children of illegal
aliens can become legal citizens, also a forceful wish of politicians which is not supported by the public except the ultra-
liberals among us.
Stripped from the bill, thankfully, was a provision that would have funded abortions at overseas U.S. military bases. While the majority of Americans do not favor government funded, open abortions, congress continues to stifle the wishes of the citizens whom they are supposed to represent.
It should be noted that Republican Mitch McConnel (Kentucky) had personally requested over $100 million in earmarks for pet projects. While fronting as the party of change, many Republicans had pitched their pet project funding requests into bills being considered.
This year’s spending bill so far includes $725 Billion in defense programs, including $158.7 Billion for combat overseas. Just chump change to them, but tax payer-sweat to the rest of the nation.
